OUR STORY

Where It All Began

The Guava Limb Café was founded by Mick Fleming, co-founder of The Lodge at Chaa Creek and a long-time steward of Belize’s tourism and conservation landscape. With deep roots in western Belize, Mick envisioned a restaurant that reflected the rhythm of San Ignacio itself  relaxed, colorful, welcoming, and grounded in community.

In 2012, the Fleming family acquired a historic colonial townhouse along Burns Avenue and carefully restored it, preserving its architecture while bringing it to life with vibrant hues, open courtyards, and lush garden spaces. In 2013, Guava Limb Café officially opened its doors, introducing a dining space shaped as much by atmosphere as by food.

From the beginning, Guava Limb was built around the table  a place where conversations linger, where families gather, and where visitors and locals share space with ease. It quickly became woven into the daily life of San Ignacio, hosting everything from casual lunches to celebrations and post-adventure dinners.

Over the years, Guava Limb has grown into one of the most established restaurants in the Cayo District. In 2015, it was honored with the Belize Tourism Board’s Restaurant of the Year award, a national recognition of excellence in hospitality and culinary quality.

The setting has evolved. The menu has expanded. The spirit remains constant: thoughtful food, warm Belizean hospitality, and a table always ready.

Community, Competition & Culinary Craft

The Guava Limb Café has always been closely tied to the spirit of San Ignacio and the wider Belizean community. That connection is reflected in the relationships it nurtures, the people it supports, and the pride it carries beyond its walls.

The café proudly supports the Slim & Trim for Guava Limb team, champions of the legendary Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge. The team secured overall victories in 2023, 2024, and 2026, earning the prestigious Kinich Ahau Trophy — an honor awarded to teams that achieve three championship titles. Winning the Kinich Ahau Trophy reflects years of dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

The Ruta Maya is one of Belize’s most respected national sporting events, tracing the Belize River over four demanding days. It represents resilience, heritage, and Belizean pride. Supporting the team aligns naturally with Guava Limb’s values — commitment, consistency, and belief in local talent.

Inside the kitchen, that same sense of discipline and pride continues. Guava Limb is driven by a dedicated Belizean team of culinary professionals who shape the menu daily. Their approach blends local knowledge with global technique, honoring Belizean ingredients while embracing international influence. Many have grown within Belize’s hospitality industry, bringing both tradition and innovation to the table.

The kitchen operates with intention: clean flavors, balanced plates, respect for seasonal produce, and careful preparation. It is collaborative, focused, and grounded in craft.

Here community lives in many forms in the athletes it supports, the farmers it partners with, the chefs who lead the kitchen, and the guests who return again and again.
